Treatment Plan Evaluation for Medical Physicists
Reviewing each patient's radiation treatment plan before treatment begins is a fundamental aspect of providing high quality radiotherapy. Yet, treatment plan evaluation is one of the topics that rarely receives dedicated attention during training. As a result, many clinicians pick up heterogenous "learning-on-the-job" skills that are incomplete, and continue with incomplete knowledge throughout their careers.

This program was designed for those who want to understand and improve their treatment plan evaluation skills in all techniques (3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and SBRT), across all disease sites encountered in clinic. The course covers all aspects of plan evaluation, from CT simulation scan image review to image registration, contour evaluation, beam arrangement, plan optimization, review of dose, dose volume histograms (DVHs), and how to handle common challenges. At the heart of the clinic treatment planning process is the medical physicist, and recognizing each of these aspects can help them produce better final treatment plans for the radiation oncologists to approve for clinical use.

This Treatment Plan Evaluation course taught over 300 Medical Physicists, Radiation Oncologists, and Radiation Therapists from 6 different countries in Northern Africa from April - June of 2024. The course was offered in English with Arabic subtitles and taught by a mighty volunteer team of U.S. medical physicist educators. Below you can find a summary of the course outline as well as a link to the Zoom recordings and Powerpoint Presentations for each of the sessions.
